Swinburne media and communications alumna, Rebeccah Churchward, is celebrated in B&T’s 30 Under 30 Awards for 2020.
Ms Churchward, now a Client Manager at Kamber, was recognised for excelling in the category of Project Manager. Kamber is a content marketing agency with locations in Melbourne and Sydney, offering a range of digital and content advertising services.
For 2020, B&T organised an online event to celebrate their 30 Under 30 awards in Australia’s advertising and marketing industries in response to the COVID-19 situation.
The annual ceremony celebrates and recognises young professionals who demonstrate industry drive and forward thinking. The finalists highlighted were a diverse, tech-minded community with women dominating the ranks this year.
The 30 Under 30 awards celebrated over 10 categories such as marketing, strategy, and technology. There were 10 finalists in each category and 32 awards were presented virtually, including People’s Choice Award and a Grand Prix winner. Ms Churchward was one of the three winners out of the 10 featured finalists in the category for Project Manager.
“It’s exciting to have your work recognised, especially by people in your industry. I’m young but I’ve achieved a lot and that’s worth being proud of,” says Ms Churchward.
After four years working in not-for-profits, Ms Churchward was invited to join Kamber and has now risen from Client Executive to Client Manager, specialising in project management.
“I love that project management is a versatile skill. No two days are ever the same and that means I get to experience a variety of work”.
A project that Ms Churchward has poured passion and pride into developing is the Facebook Messenger bot experience for Code Like a Girl as part of the 'Losing Lena' campaign. The documentary produced by FINCH in partnership with Creatable and Code Like a Girl tackles some of the biases and challenges that discourage women from working in STEM and other tech roles .

During her time at Swinburne, Ms Churchward studied a Bachelor of Media and Communications with a double major in public relations and social media, and graduated in 2018.
Ms Churchward’s passion for the communications industry began with World Vision’s Youth Advocacy team – VGen - as their National Communications and Marketing Coordinator.
“I was still finding my feet so I was keen to use my time at university to learn the theory behind the practical skills I’d already developed as well as learn new skills and experience different ways of thinking,” says Ms Churchward.
With the potential to be a future leader, Ms Churchward has honed-in her project management skills, overseeing a range of projects including website redevelopments, annual reports and video productions the size of feature length films.
“It’s okay to not be the smartest or most experienced person in the room but if you’re open to tackling new problems, hearing different perspectives and trying different ways of working then you’ll find your stride.”
