About the scholarship

Summary

The Apollo Fund – First in Family Scholarship for Business is dedicated to empowering the next generation of trailblazers in business.

It supports a first year business student who will be the first in their family to attend university and has overcome educational disadvantage to pursue their dreams.

This scholarship is a proud part of the Accounting Futures Fund, which seeks to ignite passion and purpose in business, accounting and related fields at Swinburne University of Technology, helping to shape bold, future-ready leaders who will make a lasting impact.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility
Applicants must be: 
  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or Australian permanent resident with humanitarian visa
  • the first in family to attend university
  • a VTAC applicant (school leaver) with equity schemes (SEAS) categories
Enrolment criteria

Applicants must be:

  • a commencing first year Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2027
  • enrolled full-time in a single or double degree undergraduate Business course offered by the School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship
  • on campus.

Preference will be given to students intending to major in Accounting.

Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed based on educational disadvantage and community involvement.

Supporting documentation

Personal statement

Submit a personal statement of up to 800 words addressing:

  • an interest for a career in Business/Accounting
  • your career aspirations
  • why you feel you should be awarded the scholarship and how it will help you to overcome disadvantage.
  • if you come from a rural or regional area, please include details.

ATAR certificate

Provide your ATAR certificate as evidence.

Note: For current Year 12 students, you don’t need to wait until you have received your ATAR to apply. Once you have received your ATAR, please send through a copy of your ATAR certificate to scholarship@swinburne.edu.au to complete your application.

Educational disadvantage

Provide evidence of educational disadvantage, which may fall under the categories listed below. To assist you, we’ve included a link to the VTAC website for further guidance on preparing your evidence: 

Community participation

Provide evidence of any community participation such as extra-curricular service to the community, sporting participation and leadership qualities. Supporting documents can include, but are not limited to:

  • reference letter
  • certificate of participation.

Written references

Provide two written references from a teacher, community leader, or employer. Note: referees cannot be a family member or friend.
