Study tour overview
This program aims to increase students’ knowledge of India’s cultural, architectural and urban context and their connections with the west. By participating in this program, you will experience multiple Indian cities where modern Western architectural and urban design theories were put into practice, merged with the local context and helped to shape the great Indian cities.
Through immersion in the architectural tour and the direct engagement with leading local institutions and industry partners, you will gain a deepened understanding of the social and cultural specifics of India, and begin to understand the challenges and identify the exceptional opportunities that can eventuate out of cross-cultural collaboration.
Highlights/tentative itinerary
Through this program you will experience traditional local architecture and urban design approaches, contrasted with the legacies of three highly influential international architects through visiting the work of urban planning and architecture of Le Corbusier (France), Louis Kahn (USA), and Balkrishna Doshi, (India).
- Work on an architecture and urban design brief based on a real project;
- Learn about drone-based 3D photogrammetry and laser-based 3D scanning and 360 degree video capture;
- Learn from guest speakers from local government and industry to improve your understanding of all the different aspects of the local context;
- Work locally to develop your design proposals in situ and gain feedback from local partners;
- Present your work to local industry and government.
